When she comes to the United States at age seventeen, without English, and enrolls in the university as a foreign student, Roya does not know that she has taken the first steps to becoming the modern Western woman her father wants her to be. But in the process of becoming herself, she also learns the terrible truth about the love of her life. That love is really the center of the story. It is told so beautifully, poignantly, and tragically, that tears come to the reader's eyes.
It is for this reason, coupled with the vivid way scenes which are realized in the family gatherings in pre-revolutionary Iran, that this has all the makings of a great love story. It demands telling on the screen. It will make a great movie, in the right hands. If anyone reading this knows how to write a screenplay, I urge that person to read this book and see what I mean.
